Update Version 2.0
We thought the first version of the poi game was a little cluncky and not as playable as we would have liked. So during a fun visit from Mr Bluecat we came up with a new version. Its a little more competitive and you need to really think about whether you can manage the move or not before playing.

The Poi Game Rules Version 2.0

- All cards are dealt out between players (there are 40 cards so it works nicely with 4 players but can be played with any number)

- Order of play is irrelevant, it will make no difference to the scoring.

- It doesn’t matter if your opponents see your cards either, it’s if you can do the move or not.

- The object of the game is to gain the highest score by pulling off a move with the highest possible number of cards.

- Cards of the same colour cannot be played in the same move.

- Scoring goes; 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 16, 22, 29, 37 so a 4 card move is worth 7 points, a 7 card move is worth 22 points etc.

- Each player gets 3 attempts to succesfully pull off the move, if they fail after 3 attempts then the number of cards in their move is deducted from their score.

- Judging must be fairly strict. Did you really pull off that behind the head polyrhythm antispin? or did you sort of flail around a bit? Being at least mostly in plane is important!

- If a player fails to do their move, they keep the cards and can attempt a different (or the same) combination next go (unless the player really can’t do that move, in which case they must attempt it once and then discard the card without gaining any points from it)

- Once everyone has played all their cards the score is counted up and highest score wins. This can be a bit quick and sometimes unfair to the dealer if the cards don’t evenly share between the players so playing to 100 or 150 makes it a bit more interesting.

The Poi Game v1.0
The Poi game is based on a set of cards. Each card has a category and an aspect within that category. Play finished once a player has got rid of all his cards. It's more fun after a few drinks. The general object is to laugh and have fun.

Invented by Garthy, Sandy, Tim, Oli, Sy and Matt. This game is under a creative commons licence so basicaly you can download it and play it for free but if you make any money off it you have to give us some :)

These are the rules we came up with as a basis to start from but you can play different versions. Try the pictionary version where you pick up 3 category cards and everyone else has to guess which cards you picked up.

Also to make the game easier for beginners try taking out some of the more difficult cards like polyrythmic and quarter time.

Rule Set One
All cards are dealt out to players
Play goes around the players
Object is to get rid of all your cards
Cards are laid out in a line / move
A line / move cannot contain more than one category of cards
A link card starts a new line / move but the previous move has to be linked to the next move using the link card
If you can't lay a card down you pick up all the cards laid down
Cards in a move cannot have the same category
The player must then attempt the move after laying down a card
It must meet the requirements of the cards
It doesn't have to be the same move as the previous player, just meet the requirements of the move.
If a player is judged to not have met the requirements of the cards laid down with the move he has just done he must pick up the cards.
generally judgement is fairly loose unless the clean standard card has been played.
There are no moves :D
If you hit the light shade you pick up all the cards.
If you hit Sandy the move is deemed successful and play moves onto the next player.

Example play
The cards are dealt out to the players face down
The First Player then pick a card to play and puts it on the table eg: (Planes / Wall)
The Player then must do a move that meets the requirement of the card laid down. (Wall plane circles)
The next player must lay a card that is not category already laid down or a link or bonus card.
Player plays a (Centre of rotation - Isolated)
Player does isolated wall plane circles.
Next player plays a (Bonus / Under leg)
Player does isolated wall plane circles under leg
Next player plays a (Link / Wrap )
Player does under leg wall plane circles and then wraps on his arms
Because the link card has been
Player lays ( Planes / Atomic ) and does isolated wall plane circles under the leg, Wraps on his arms and goes into atomic weave.
